Hi,
I work for the Wales Fair Trade Forum and we are trying to make Wales the first ever Fair Trade Country. This means we need towns and villages from across Wales working together to become a 'Fairtrade town/ village'.
I have organised a meeting open to anyone who lives or works in Dinas Powys and is interested in Fairtrade or would like to know more. At the meeting we will discuss how we can work together to meet the following criteria to become a Fairtrade Village:
1.The local council must pass a resolution supporting Fairtrade, and serve Fairtrade coffee and tea at its meetings and in offices and canteens.
2.A range of Fairtrade products must be readily available in the area's shops and served in local cafés and catering establishments
(Target for number of retail outlets: Population of < 10000 = 1 retail outlet per 2500; Population < 200000 = 1 retail outlet per 5000; Population of < 500000 = 1 retail outlet per 10000
Target for number of catering outlets: Population of < 10000 = 1 catering outlet per 5000; Population < 200000 = 1 catering outlet per 10000; Population of < 500000 = 1 catering outlet per 20000)
3.Fairtrade products must be used by a number of local work places (estate agents, hairdressers etc) and community organisations (churches, schools etc)
4.Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign (this can be done with putting on events)
5.A local Fairtrade steering group must be convened to ensure continued commitment to Fairtrade Town status.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday 9th April at 7pm in the Welsey Methodist Church Hall.
Everyone is welcome! Please let friends and colleagues know. I have a poster available if you are able to advertise the meeting on noticeboards etc
