I have finally tracked down another person in the village that knows of this chap.
Yes, Hugh was buried in St Andrews last year. Apparently his girlfriend is still local and someone in the family was, as you say, is/was a local councillor.
It sounds gruesome but i think i can even get the grave number if pushed. Although, of course,I will not post this information. Anyone who needs to know must drop me a line with a credible reason why they want to know. Sorry to be paranoid but privacy counts.
Sounds like Hugh was quite a well known person.
