I object to your thinly veiled insinuation that the poster is an idiot. I think you should apologise.

Ok -thats it if there are any other readers of this thread who can add something more constructuve to this discussion - lets hear from you. I'm sick of this too, do I have to draw pictures?  With thinking like yours no wonder DP isn't going anywhere, except backwards.

I think the main concern of the original post was the traffic through Dinas Powys on its way to and from Cardiff and Barry, rather than that through the centre of the village. There are two separate issues here.

I think the aspiration that the village will somehow return to some idealised pre-petrol engine utopian state is just a little unrealistic. That would indeed be going "backwards". Building more car parks and destroying the common is not going to discourage the motorist. Locals don't need to use their cars and would not need the car park you suggest. Non locals need to be encouraged to use train and bus to get here. Commuters need to leave their cars behind. At home, not in Dinas Powys.

Hi All,

At this point, i think i should interject.

This is aimed at nobody in particular but i hope may clear the air possibly?

EVERYONE has, and is entitled to, an opinion.
EVERYONE who has registered on this website is entitled to speak their mind freely.

This is then quite obviously a place where disagreements can take place. And in a way that's Good!

But, as the webmaster, i feel it is not right to ever bring it to a "personal" level.

It can be incredibly frustrating using a discussion forum as words dont always carry the message.

Can we all kiss and make up?

If thats the way you interpret my comments then so be it.

And please don't suggest that the village is in a better state now than it was in the 50's and 60's.  You obviously weren't around then either.  In this case, going back to the way it was would definately be a step forward.

Fortunately I only have to put up with the current situation on infrequent trips home, but I still feel sorry for the older people who remember what it was like and still care and for the younger people who will never know want true village life is all about.

I've already given a number of very good reasons for putting a car park in on the lower common and they have everything to do with the comfort and convenience of DP residents.

And if you reckon pedestrianising the village wouldn't have an impact on the Barry to Cardiff traffic then you must have rocks in your head.

Re: : Traffic in Dinas Powys - school kids health + pollution!

Ive read back through this discussion and i really cant see an answer..

to my mind, traffic is a bit like water.. it will always find the path of least resistence...

dinas powys is right in the path of many hundreds, possibly thousands, of commuters heading in and out of cardiff.

Until recently i was lucky enough to have been able to work from home. i used to watch all the sheep going to work, sipping a cup of tea and replying to emails. but now, im one of the sheep. again.

from a selfish point of view i would love the old part of the village to be pedestrianised but in reality it would not solve a problem, just move it.

i think the only way is to improve public transport...i know i had a nightmare when i used it last. but it has to improve, it  HAS to work!... most of the cars i follow to work have 1 person in it,  just like me.
